MobiSpec

Tools for the Mobile Spectroscopist

Q: What are the hardware/software requirements for MobiSpec?

A: You will need a Pocket PC device running Microsoft® Windows Mobile 2003TM, and about 1MB of free memory. MobiSpec performs better on devices with fast CPUs, we currently recommend using a device with an Intel® 400MHz XscaleTM CPU. The downloadable MobiSpec Evaluation Edition allows you to test compatibility with your own device. For operation with Shimadzu PsiPortTM, you will require a network connection.

Although WM2003 includes the .NET Compact Framework, for optimal performance we recommend that you upgrade your device to the latest version of the framework; this can be downloaded from Microsoft at the following location:

.NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP2

Q: Can I continue to use the Evaluation Edition of MobiSpec indefinitely?

A: If you are using MobiSpec exclusively for academic/educational, or private, non-commercial purposes, then you are free to use the Evaluation Edition at no cost for as long as you like. If you are using MobiSpec in this way, then we would appreciate your sending an e-mail to let us know; this is not licensing requirement, but we'd be very interested to learn the uses to which MobiSpec is put. For any purposes other than academic/non-commercial, you may use the MobiSpec Evaluation Edition for a period of not more than 14 days for evaluation only; after this time, we request that you purchase a license.

Q: Do you provide full support for the MobiSpec Evaluation Edition?

A: No. We only undertake to support licensed copies of MobiSpec. However, you can still mail us with bug reports or feature requests, and we will try to incorporate these into future releases.

Q: What's the best way to zoom the MobiSpec display in one dimension only?

A: Tap and drag beneath the x-axis line to zoom the horizontal dimension, or to the left of the y-axis to zoom the vertical. As long as you keep the stylus outside the actual graph area whilst dragging, you will see a pair of solid line cursors instead of the rubber-band, which mark the start and end points of the new zoom region on the respective axis. It's possible to do this in the graph area too, but you need a steadier hand.
